What Does an Acupuncturist Do? |
Dr. Cai Song practices Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and Chinese herbs) in Charlottetown. Dr. Cai Song started learning acupuncture when she was 12 years old from a nationally famous professor and her father. When she was 16 years, she went to Harbin Medical University, China to learn acupuncture. She was then trained for clinical practice in Nan Gang Chinese Medical Hospital. Between 1978-1982, Dr. Song studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture in Hu Nan TCM University where she received her doctor degree in TCM. Between 1982-1985, Dr. Song undertook several research projects that revealed the mechanism by which acupuncture reduced pain and improved brain function. In 1985, she received her MSc degree. In 1994, Dr. Song received a PhD degree in Neuropharmacology from National University of Ireland. She taught acupuncture and TCM at Milton College, Dublin, Ireland. She has treated many patients in Ireland, England, Belgium and Canada in the past 20 years. Recently, she taught acupuncture at UPEI. Dr. Song is an honorary member of the Acupuncture Foundation of Ireland, a regular member of Canadian Academy of Chinese Traditional Health Sciences and The World Association of Chinese Medicine. She has published more than 100 papers and several books, and received many international and national awards.
