Who we are.
What Does an Acupuncturist Do? |
Natalie is a native Islander who grew up in Flat River reaping the benefits of the wonderful family community of Belfast. After completing high school Natalie moved away to work on her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Psychology. Always having a strong interest in the field of Oriental Medicine and Naturopathy, she pursued this interest through self study and short courses. In 1997 with a young family and a strong desire to work in the field of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Natalie went forward to graduate from a 3-year full-time acupuncture program at Grant McEwen College ( www.macewan.ca/web/hcs/acupuncture/home/index.cfm) in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2001, Natalie and her husband Patrick made the decision to move back to Prince Edward Island to raise their three children with the closeness of family and in an area they consider to be one of the safest most nurturing places in the world. Islanders' typical warm welcome and acceptance has greeted them not only on a personal level but also within the realm of her profession since opening her practice in 2001. Natalie has a private clinic in the village of Cardigan. In her Kings County office, she practices mainly Traditional Chinese Acupuncture but also draws from the many other styles of Acupuncture including the Japanese style Shonishin (Pediatric needle less acupuncture). Having three young children Natalie has personally witnessed the efficacy and rewards of Acupuncture and Shonishin in the treatment of childhood ailments and has gained much knowledge and experience in Pediatric Acupuncture. Natalie also incorporates the systems of Auriculotherapy and Korean Hand Acupuncture. She works with many patients with varying health challenges; however as word of mouth travels on PEI she now seems to work closely with patients suffering from Arthritis, Chronic neck pain, headaches and/or migraines. With the perspective and intent of not only treating the symptoms (the branch) but also treating the causes (the root), Natalie feels that patients have the best of both worlds with Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture. Her tools and techniques include insertion needles, direct and indirect moxabustion, cupping, gua sha, tui na (Chinese massage) and capillary release. Natalie fervently believes that diet plays an important role in health and wellness and therefore always devotes detailed attention to that aspect of her patient's health. She works closely with her clients and their wishes in all aspects of their health often offering dietary and herbal recommendation and therapy. Her passion for this system of medicine and her commitment to improving health and wellness for those that seek her services is always present. In addition to her primary focus and study in Classical Acupuncture, Natalie also has in-depth study in the field of Aromatherapy and offers clients Raindrop Therapy (a relaxation massage) as a complementary treatment. Natalie is a supporting member of the Journal of Chinese Medicine and has been involved with the creation and editing of Newsletters representing Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine including "ASA Connections" a newsletter supporting the Acupuncture Society of Alberta. Natalie strongly believes in the importance of community and as such is involved in many aspects of her children's' lives and activities through volunteer work. Within that community having the opportunity to share the testimony and explain the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is very enriching. If you are interested in learning more about this complex system of medicine and what if can offer you, please feel free to contact Natalie at any time.
